                                                                                                    Dr.  Francisco F. Feliciano I) Dr. Francisco F. Feliciano, one of the Philippines' most important composers today, obtained  his rnusic education from the University of the Philippines (Master in Music Composition); the Hochschule der Kuenste in Berlin, Germany for his diploma in Music Composition; and at the Yale University School of Music for his Master of Musical Arts and Doctorate in Musical Arts, Composition. He studied with international conductors Arthur Weisberg and Martin Behrmann, and with composers  Jacob Druckman, IsangYun, H.W. Zimmerman and Krystof Penderecki. Dr. Feliciano has created more than 30 major works that include operas and music dramas - La Loba Negra, Ashen Wings, Sikhay Sa Kabila ng Paalam (Beyond the Farewell), and the life of wartime Filipino hero, Jose Abad Santos. Among his large works are The Transfiguration and Missa Mysterium for orchestra and large chorus; the ballet Yerma; and several prize winning compositions such as Pokpok  Alimpako, which has become favorite piece of choirs in intemational choral competitions; and Salimbayan. Umiinog, Walang Tinag (Perpetuum Immobile) was premiered in New York City at the ISCM Festival. His latest choral works, Pamugun and Restless, have been performed by Filipino choirs in various choral festivals in Europe. In 1977, Dr. Feliciano was given a John D. Rockefeller III Award in Music Composition. One of Asia's leading figures in liturgical music, Dr. Feliciano has composed hundreds of liturgical pieces, mass settings, hymns, and other songs for worship. He continues to write new songs as he supervises the publication of a new Asian hymnal containing mostly works of Asian composers at the Asian lnstitute for Liturgy and Music, a school for church musicians he founded 30 years ago. Dr. Feliciano`s works are published worldwide in hymnals and worship books of various churches, a recognition of the universality of his works. He is an active clinician, having conducted workshops on creative music writing in lndonesia, Malaysia, Singapore ,Taiwan, Hongkong, Australia, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Germany. Respected as a conductor, Dr. Feliciano has been invited to conduct the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Moscow State Symphony, as well as orchestras in Singapore, Malaysia,New Zealand, Taiwan, and Japan. For many years he was conductor of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra the national state orchestra. Dr. Feliciano is President of the Samba-Likhaan Foundation: The Asian School of Music, Worship and the Arts, an organization devoted to the promotion of Asian music and arts, and putting these in the context of worship.
